The Sydney Chapter of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India was officially inaugurated by our respected then President CA T N Manoharan and then Vice-President CA Sunil Talati on 7th January 2007. Dignitaries from CPA, Australia and local business representatives also graced occasion and welcomed starting of Chapter of ICAI in Sydney.

As name suggests our Sydney Chapter of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is being established as per regulations of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) which is the largest and most respected accounting institute in not only India but also internationally. ICAI & its members are few of the main facilitator of current Indian Economic Growth, and were recognised as one of the leading participants of the Republic of India’s Growth Plan (Vision 2020).

In India, CA examination is supposed to be most difficult course to complete as passing rate is less than 10%. Currently over 350,000 students are pursuing the Chartered Accountancy course and the total membership of ICAI is about 139,841. Out of the total members, nearly 55% are in Practice and the rest are in employment. Chartered accountants are rendering services in every walk of economic life – Politics, Judiciary, Government, Agriculture, Corporate and financial institutions. A significant number of members occupy eminent positions in their respective organisations such as Chairman of regulatory body, Chairperson of banks and insurance companies, Chairperson & Managing Directors of reputed enterprises, Executive Directors of innumerable enterprises/organisations. ICAI has spread its wing in Foreign Countries through its 18 chapters established across the globe.

The members of ICAI are also considered to be very competent even in the foreign countries as is evident from the positions they are occupying in all major cities of the world. Presently, there are about 12,000 members working internationally, including all major cities around Australia and New Zealand.

Sydney Chapter of ICAI is brainchild of few migrants who settled in Sydney and then was brought into reality under able leadership of CA Yateender Gupta. Chapter was established with main intention to help new migrants, equip them with knowledge of Australian Industry and to increase net working among Indian CA’s settled in Australia with a vision that Sydney Chapter of ICAI is a group of world class and most desired accountants and advisors in Australia.
