MRA with CPA Australia

We are pleased to inform you that ICAI has now officially signed MRA with CPA Australia. For the benefit of all members we liaised with CPA Australia to understand procedure on how to obtain CPA membership.

We are thankful to Angela Rice (Global Relationships, Projects Officer), CPA Australia Limited for quickly updating us about following information.

Please note that CPA Australia have only recently signed the MRA agreement last Tuesday (3 February 2009). Therefore, there are no specific details regarding to the MRA at the present time as we are still awaiting confirmation from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) authorising the MRA.

Good standing member of ICAI who is also Associate member of CPA has to complete following studies to get CPA Status.

Business Strategy and Leadership CPA Program segment CPA113.

This CPA Program segment is offered by distance learning mode. Course materials are delivered to each candidate, with additional study tools and materials available via the online learning tool, My Online Learning. Each candidate is required to sit an examination.

AND

Better Practice in Governance and Accountability. This is a continuing professional development program that must be completed prior to advancing to CPA status. All materials will be delivered via CPA Australia's online learning tool, My Online Learning. Candidates will be required to undertake an online assessment as part of this program.

Please note that CPA Australia recommend applicants to continue with the CPA Program. By successfully completing the 6-segment CPA Program, applicants may be eligible to utilise their CPA designation with other current MRA's and/or maintain their CPD hours.

In the interim, CPA Australia will allow members currently enrolled in the CPA Program to transfer to BSL.  If you wish to continue with the transfer, please ensure CPA Australia receive the application before this date accordingly.

(A) Procedure for members who have currently enrolled in any CPA Segment:

Following 3 options are available

Option 1

Continue to complete all six segments of the CPA Program - members can advance to CPA status upon completion of the Business Strategy & Leadership and Corporate Governance & Accountability segments.  Once all 6 segments are complete, they will then be eligible to take advantage of the MRA arrangements CPA Australia has with other organisations.

 

Option 2

Transfer out of your current segment and into CPA113 Business Strategy & Leadership (available until Friday, 13 February 2009).

  • You can keep the original segment materials
  • new materials will be re-issued for a fee of $245
  • the member must waive any claim to special consideration due to the late arrival of materials
  • Member should give authority to CPA to check their good standing status with ICAI as there is very limited time available.

Please note that if you have enrolled in more than one segment, then you can switch over any one segment only with BSL. No refund will be allowed for second segment. CPA recommends you to complete study in second segment as you will get CPD Hours for your study.

Option 3

Defer your current enrolment and transfer into CPA113 Business Strategy & Leadership in Semester 2, 2009 (available until the 6 March 2009).

  • the member must pay the deferral fee of $110
  • they can keep the original segment materials
  • new materials will be re-issued in July 2009 for Semester 2, 2009 for a fee of $245 (this payment must be taken at time of deferral)

As per CPA Calender, scheduled date of examination of BSL for Semester 1 is 30th April 2009. Hence, choose your option carefully, complete relevant application and send it by fax /email to the address mentioned on the form before due date.

(B) For members who are not associate members of CPA Australia:-

You can not get enrolment in semester 1. You have to wait till semester 2. CPA Australia will announce procedure shortly regarding new enrolments. Scheduled date for close of enrolments for Semester 2 is 06th July 2009.

(C) For ICAI members who are currently studying bridging units:-

You may not be now required to complete bridging course. However, CPA Australia will look at this on a case by case basis to issue exemption. Please contact CPA Qualifications Assessment team on 03-9606 9617 for more information.
